Laser hair reduction is a noninvasive method of removing unwanted hair from the body. This procedure uses concentrated light beams (lasers) to damage hair follicles and reduce hair growth. Many are apprehensive to try laser due to fear of pain and/or believing that it's not for their skin/hair type. However, our sophisticated laser devices can address many different skin tones ranging from pale to deeper tones in a pain-free way. Laser can even address unsightly ingrown hairs and help with evening your skin tone. While it’s not permanent, laser hair removal provides longer-lasting results over plucking, tweezing, or waxing. Most people require multiple treatments for optimal results.
Laser Hair Removal Patch tests are a necessary part of the assessment stage prior to your full treatment. The patch test is then performed on a small area of skin where your specialist will determine which mechanism is most appropriate for your hair reduction. Each laser device has its specialties with the ability to adjust to a variety of settings and can treat a wide range of skin tones and hair types. We are always sure to pick the best type of laser for best results and comfortability.
Before the laser reaches the skin, we apply numbing cream to the area so that you can receive the most comfortable laser treatment possible. As the laser reaches your skin, you may experience a slight sting-like sensation (equivalent to a rubber band snap) during the procedure. The treatment takes just a few minutes for smaller areas and may require half an hour or more for larger or multiple areas.
Choosing laser hair reduction is actually a low-risk procedure. However, in rare cases, the hair follicles may be resistant to laser hair removal and may regrow after the initial procedures. Those with skin sensitivities may also observe mild redness and/or swelling at the base of the follicles. For darker skin tones an adverse reaction may cause a change in pigment. If you are currently taking blood or skin thinning medications, unfortunately laser hair removal is extremely high risk and needs to be avoided 1-8 weeks (depending on medication) prior to laser hair reduction.
Following the procedure, you may experience slight swelling with a mild sunburn-like sensation that resolves itself or can be immediately calmed/soothed with Aquaphor or aloe vera gel. It is important to avoid sun exposure and YES still apply sunscreen. Over exposure to the sun's rays can lead to permanent skin damage, a stinging pain and overall discomfort.
*Laser hair reduction results can vary but most clients notice permanent hair loss after 8 consecutive sessions. PCOS clients may require addition sessions.*
